SI is competing this weekend in Technovation's South Bay Pitch Event at Apple HQ. What is the Technovation Challenge? Every year, Technovation invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology. The team is composed of: Caitlin Cotter '18, Sophia Teng '18 and Whitney Lundgren'18. They developed a wellness app called APEX and will be competing against five other high schools this weekend. Their app aims to motivate students to keep active through stress-relieving exercises and informs users about local hiking trails. After three weeks in Morocco and Spain for my first two events on the Ladies European Tour, I am back in US! My travels abroad were fantastic and I had an incredible experience competing.

I made the cut in both Morocco and Spain, but I didn't quite have the finishes I wanted. That being said—I learned so much. There were glimpses of greatness every day, and I believe I have what it takes to compete and finish on top of the leaderboard, after tightening up my ball striking and course management. Click here for full results.

All in all, it was a lot of fun playing new courses, meeting other players, and experiencing new cultures, but I am also excited to be home for a few weeks work to on my game and spend time with friends and family. This e-mail is but a brief recap on the trip, and there are lots more details, stories, photos and more up on my blog! Morocco is up and Spain will be published in just a couple more days!

Memory of the Month:

Adventuring in Barcelona! After the tournament in Spain, I was able to spend a couple extra days in Barcelona and explore the city. This was my first time in Europe, so I was super grateful to actually get some time to experience the culture and famous architecture. My favorite experience was getting lost in the streets of the Gothic Quarter—the narrow streets, tall buildings, and small cafes/shops were all spectacular.

What's up next?

This May I have two events. The big one is US Open Qualifying in Colorado at Riverdale Dunes on May 24th, and to prep for that I will be playing in a mini Cactus Tour Event in Arizona next week!

Thank you so much for your support. This is just the beginning and I can't wait for what is ahead. I am still looking to grow my team and there are always new ways to get involved. Don't hesitate to ever reach out with questions!

For more on Andrea, check out this story in the spring 2017 edition of Genesis magazine.

Mrs. Yvonne Sangiacomo and her late husband, Angelo, who passed away in December 2015, at St. Ignatius Church.

SI President Edward Reese, S.J., announced today that the Sangiacomo family has made a $3 million gift to the Father Sauer Academy, ensuring that SI is well on its way to a successful start to its new middle school venture.

For Mrs. Yvonne Sangiacomo, a former member of SI's Board of Regents, the gift came "because my family and I believe in the Academy and in what it will do to transform the lives of so many children. This brings the two together — our family and SI — to serve the city we love."

For decades, the Sangiacomo family has shaped San Francisco's real estate landscape with myriad development projects. "Thanks to the gift from Yvonne Sangiacomo and her late husband, Angelo, they are also helping us reshape SI," added Fr. Reese.

The Father Sauer Academy, set to open this August, is a full scholarship middle school for boys and girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Sangiacomo family gift will provide $1 million to fund start-up and operational costs and an additional $2 million toward the academy's endowment fund.

"This is a transformative gift that sets the foundation for the Father Sauer Academy," said Fr. Reese. "I thank the Sangiacomo family for their remarkable generosity to SI and faith in the future of this new endeavor — one that will, I hope, shape the lives of so many future young Ignatians."
