Supervisor Mark Farrell '92 made a surprise visit to the Awards Assembly to declare May 27 Elizabeth Purcell and Arthur Cecchin Day for the City of San Francisco.

ELIZABETH PURCELL
Whereas Elizabeth Purcell has served as a model educator for over 40 years, not only molding the minds of young people but also mentoring young educators who have gone on to rich careers in education;
Whereas Elizabeth Purcell advocates for diverse cultural voices in the teaching of literature and has developed and implemented cutting edge curriculum to inspire her students both in Washington, DC and San Francisco, CA;
Whereas Elizabeth Purcell has served as an education and curriculum consultant, especially advocating for women's rights and voices not only in curriculum but in the public sector;
Whereas Elizabeth Purcell has moderated student publications throughout her 21 years of service at St. Ignatius in San Francisco, training students in the art of journalism and creative writing;
Whereas Elizabeth Purcell has demonstrated excellence, openness, creativity, compassion in every aspect of her life and served the people of San Francisco expertly for 21 years as a teacher, counselor, mentor and role model at St. Ignatius College Preparatory;
Elizabeth is a courageous woman who stands up to be counted whenever she sees injustice, who takes a stand for her students, and who can be counted on to make every place better for her presence and influence. now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the City and County of San Francisco seeks to recognize the services of Elizabeth Purcell on behalf of our community; and be it
Further Resolved, that the Board of Supervisors declares May 27, 2016, Elizabeth Purcell Day in the City and County of San Francisco.

ARTHUR CECCHIN
Whereas Arthur Cecchin has served as an outstanding mentor to thousands of students and teachers over a 45-year career as an educator;
Whereas Arthur Cecchin in his dedication to the social sciences has educated a generation of active and informed citizens;
Whereas Arthur Cecchin has always been a progressive educator, open to growth and innovative throughout his teaching career, always seeking to better meet the needs of his students;
Whereas Arthur Cecchin is a man of true compassion and conscience in and out of the classroom, especially modeling good citizenship and Ignatian values;
Whereas Arthur Cecchin has exhibited excellence as a leader in coaching young people in good sportsmanship in a variety of sports;
Whereas Arthur Cecchin has helped students in the development of faith and conscience in retreat and social justice experiences for students; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the City and County of San Francisco seeks to recognize the services of Arthur Cecchin on behalf of our community; and be it
